Another council schemozzle
Published 1 year, 3 months ago in Making News.Only a few weeks after installing a ramp for wheelchairs and pushers outside its new Child Welfare Centre in the old police station in Bridge Road, Richmond, workmen are today ripping it out and digging holes in the ground. I’ve as yet no idea why they are doing it but it does make one wonder how much planning goes into these things if work has to be undone so soon after being completed. And what is the COST to ratepayers? What’s the betting Yarra Council won’t be revealing this.
UPDATE: The centre has been closed after its short-lived existence at this location and moving back to whence it came. How’s that for a waste of time, effort and money?

I think the problem is no one every reads the fine print. At the bottom of all councils mission statement, if you look very, very closely I’m sure you’ll find several lines that state:-
To work as ineffectively as possible. Vigoursly pursue the wastage and/or squandering of ratepayers money on junkets, unnecessary items, ill thought out constructions/destructions and any other half baked idea that will annoy, aggravate & irritate.
And Yarra Council takes the prize!
I don’t know Bromo, I reckon spending $5 Million Dollars on a pavilion for Caulfield Park takes the cake for wastage. Not only of our extremely limited green space, called PARKLAND, but with three disabled toilets for a sporting agenda it just doesn’t add up!…I haven’t seen too many wheel chair bound soccer players around the area…but I am reliably informed by someone on a soccer administration thingo…that the kids will not be permitted to shower in one of the 20 that are being provided…because parents don’t want their kids out of their sight for that long!
Councils tend to forget they are Trustees for our Money, they don’t own it themselves. If they want to waste their own money, well and good, but I believe we’d find them being much more frugal if they were made to pay for stuff ups!….
I’m with you on this one. And how about the stuff-up with the Prospect Wines shop in the Richmond Plaza. After capably serving the community for many many months it has been forced to close (and lose business) for many weeks now. The reason, someone has discovered the wrong shop number was on the licensing permit. They couldn’t simply amend the permit. No, they had to shut down and reapply for a licence. Where are the brains among bureaucrats?
