Time for restraint(s)

What a pity  non-Transport Minister Lynne Kosky took matters into her own hand and dumped the idea of issuing our ticket inspectors with handcuffs to help them deal with difficult non-paying customers.

Ther use of handcuffs would make their job so much easier and eliminate those nasty fights and scuffles when dealing with fare evaders.  After all, why should those of us who pay to use the trans and trains subsidise these deliberate  and persistent fare evaders?

    You must be joking.

Having wittnessed some of the behaviours of the inspectors- and i might add, against obviously well dressed professional people, i would not trust these individuals with holding shadows lead.

Having spoken to some of the inspectors and CSOs, and being sometimes in similar situations to them, I think Kosky has lost the plot on this issue. Once they are restrained with cuffs they would cause less trouble and be more lokely to listen to reason. And the “suits” are no better than many torn jean dropouts, they try to lord it over anyone they consider less “worthy” than themselves.

Having been bashed on a tram by a “suit” (a high profile city restaurateur, in fact) I fail to see what a person’s dress has to do with it. A fare evader is a fare evader no matter how they are dressed or however much they earn - and the rest of us are footing the bill for them.

Good to see more and more plainclothes ticket inspectors riding the trams these days. It gives less notice to those e3vaders who sit there watching for inspectors and jump off and run before they can be caught. The plainclothes blend in with the rest of us and soon see who is not paying their way. Be alert but not alarmed - unless you are hoping for a free ride.
