Rats and a sinking ship?

What a load of wimps.  Only eight months into the job the foolhardy elected them to do, Bland Bracks and Waterboy Thwaites have thrown in the towel.  Talk about rats leaving a sinking ship - and defrauding the voters by not completing their side of the contract with the electorate.  It’s all (further) downhill from here.

Brumby left holding the bag… did he get any trips to the snow like the others? Is this one of the reasons they have left?

Now all there is left is the bland band!

Yes, but its an opportune political sacrifice for the Federal Labor Party.

It puts the spotlight on JOhn Howard to resign…

Obviously, a small part of his decision was predicated on the situation with his drink driving son.

what a load of rubbish! howard is not going to resign and bracks and thwaites are leaving the koint in bloody great shape.

Well Bracks is not getting any sympathy is this nook is he? I felt sorry for him until I heard Thwaites was going to. Now, I am just suspicious about them both!

I don’t believe what we’ve been told! A deputy would not normally resign at the same time as a Leader without something brewing in a pot, yet to be dished up at the table.

Yeah but, look how effective? Thwaites was. He was hiding behind the coat tails of Bracksy. No Bracksy, no free ride.

Hmm. We’ve stirred the possum. Nice Guy Bracksy he may be, but that doesn’t make his politically popular. A case of the Empereror’s new clothes perhaps.

Two questions: why didn’t they tell us they were going to quit BEFORE the election? After all it was only eight months ago and they were allegedly in for the long haul.

And who is to be the new deputy? Surely not Kosky - she of the late trains and trams and poor personal time-keeping. And definitely not that very raw recruit, “Twinkle Twinkle” Holding. Any worthwhile suggestions from among this bunch of ex-union personnel who’ve never braved the real world?

I don’t think some of you have the slightest idea what you are talking about. They have both given reasons for leaving, reasons that did not exist at the time of the election. Thwaites said he would not have been standing at the next election anyway, so he’s leaving to let Brumby and Hulls bring new ideas in. The state is definitely better than it was when Kennet left, and to go back to that type of regime would set us back decades. Bailliue has virtually written his own resignation with the purile comments he has been making, don’t be surprised to see a liberal leadership challenge before the next election!

I definitely agree with grumpyoldman, that we will see a change in the Liberal Leadership. Listening to Mr Baillieu talking, I reckon he got the job as a “favour paid up”..He is definitely not the usual Liberal dish.

And anyone at all, would have been an improvement on Jeff Kennett, with his killing off of every public service we had. I mean PUBLIC service as in being provided for with police, teachers, schools, hospitals and generally allowing for the individual who can’t facilitate the “user pays” mentality he introduced.

We’ve gone back decades in the Federal arena with John Howard in charge of the Country. What ever happened to accountability and Ministerial responsibility under Howard and will Rudd restore democracy should he win??? Will he just be a younger version of Mr Howard? He seems to have learnt many of his bad habits of ducking and avoiding contentious issues.

But surely, if Kennet is defendable, there is a rational to stripping services in order to rebuild them efficiently.

There is one thing Kennet keeps getting blamed for, AND IT WAS NOT HIS FAULT! He always cops the blame for the privatisation of the SEC and Gas and Fuel. Well I can tell you that John Cain was planning to sell both and the unions threatened to bring on the biggest strikes this state had seen, so he chickened out. I know because I was privy to negotiations at Gas and Fuel, where Cain was planning a Public Float of the whole lot, (much like the Commonwealth Bank). He was so close that they were working out how much discount to the share price to give to the G&F and SEC employees.
The Plumbers Union, then led by a communist by the name of John Rutherford, (I knew him personally, we started a youth club together) threatened to bring the state to a standstill if it went ahead. The truth is he knew he couldn’t, because G&F and SEC workers were in favour of Cains type of sell off. Cain gave in to the bluff, and that’s why we have got the mess that the gas and electric companies are now. I tell you what, heaven help this state if there is another Longford style incident, It would take months to fix, not three weeks like we did the last time.

Hey Grumpyoldman, juset because Bracks and Thwaites gave reasons for quitting, it doesn’t mean you have to believe them. They’re politicians, for gawd’s sake. They have spin doctors manipulating and polishing every word they utter. They are coached and brief and have their strings pulled. Question - don’t blindly believe.
And, hey, about Terry Bracks being feted at last night opening of the latest MTC play as if she was still the Premier’s wife? Surely she is now just one of us and the Premier’s wife is Mrs Brumby. These pollies never let go.
