Pool fiasco

So where were all those international swimmers at the ho-hum swimming championships who were so allegedly desperate for somewhere to train that the Richmond pool had to be completely handed over to their needs?
This was the (very empty) pool during one of the main closed-off periods.  Remember, taxpayers and ratepayers, Yarra Council was not only holding […]

Marking time

Not bad, Yarra Council.  It only took until 4 o’clock on Tuesday afternoon to turn the Richmond Town Hall’s timepiece back in line with the end of daylight saving, which occurred at 3am on Sunday.  It just goes to show how slowly the wheels of bureaucracy turn.

Have you noticed, fellow Nooksters, that there are many, many requests for services listed here yet most of them haven’t attracted a single reply - some as much as a month old?
There could be three reasons: 1. No one is reading the site;
                                          2. There are a lazy lot of people out there who don’t want […]

Stop these speedsters

When is something going to be done about the daily flagrant abuse of the speed limit on Bridge Road?  There is hardly a vehicle passing through this main Richmond thoroughfare that comes even close to abiding by the law.  And yet the police station is only 100m from where so many signs clearly declare this […]

Fitness fades

Get ready, Richmondites, to lose that healthy glow.  Yarra Council has decided the needs of pampered international athletes are greater than those of the local community.  It is banning us from use of the Richmond Recreation Centre’s swimming pool for 10 days while World Swimming Championship swimmers plough up and down for practice.  And this […]

Good upholsterer wanted

Can anyone recommend a good local (Richmond) upholsterer who will pick up a couple of old armchairs, upholster them and return them at a reasonable price?  A craftsman wanted, not some mass megolithic franchise mob - someone who will give a bit of TLC to these old favourites.

[…]

Plan B chasing another plan

Good news for some Richmond residents in that nightly noise-maker Plan B Lounge in Bridge Road, Richmond, has withdrawn its VCAT application to stay open until 3am and thus further disturb the lives and sleep of nearby apartment dwellers.  The story is that yet again this nightspot is about to change hands - it goes […]

Bike danger

If this is Yarra Council’s idea of a bike lane, cyclists beware.  The Bridge Road bike lane from Hoddle Street to Church Street is nothing more than a parking lot for all those lazy shoppers who have lost the use of their legs.

Tramcam a turn-on

Well done, Yarra Trams.  Installing cameras to keep an eye on unruly passengers can’t come soon enough.  I speak as one who has been bashed off his seat in the middle of the day - not by some drunk or druggie but by a neatly dressed (but overweight) businessman/restaurateur who couldn’t control his aggression.  Luckily […]

Inhabiting a parallel universe and walking to the beat of a different drum, I observe the machinations and misdemeanours of life in this funny old Yarra village we call Melbourne.
